Located in the west valley in Buckeye, Arizona, DBA is finishing up the construction upgrades to the intersection of Verrado Way and Thomas Road. DMB (the master planned community’s developer) and our client, realized that the community had grown beyond a 4-way stop at the intersection and decided to add traffic signals.
Our scope of work is to upgrade the intersection with new concrete aprons and new ADA ramps on all four corners. The alignment of the new ramps created an alignment difference of the painted crosswalks. Paint obliteration is taking place today (April 8) with new striping planned for April 9. The mast arms and signal poles were a long-lead item (matching the communities style) and will be installed later this Spring.
Transportation is paramount to keeping our economy going and major truck routes, like Interstate 40, play a large role in getting much needed supplies and food to those in need. Keeping our highways and bridges safe during these trying times is essential and DBA crews are doing their part.
Working on the I-40 Bridges over the Little Colorado River (eastbound and westbound) near Winslow, required repair of spalls and cracks, retrofitting piers with CFRP (carbon-fiber wrapping), replacing bearing pads, replacing deck joint assemblies and applying crack sealant on deck surfaces.
The project started in late February, we have completed the first phase of replacing the deck joints.
Recently awarded a second term on a 5-year contract with Maricopa County Department of Transportation, DBA crews are working on four bridges throughout the County. Locations include: MC-85 over the Agua Fria River; US-80 at the Hassayampa River; Tuthill Road at the Gila River; and Jackrabbit Road at the Roosevelt Irrigation District’s main line.
Project scopes include:
Through DBA’s Job Order Contract with the City of Peoria, we were contracted to complete multiple tasks within the city’s Municipal Operations Center.
The 256-acre facility houses Field Operations Division; Streets & Drainage; Solid Waste; Signs and Striping; Meter Services; Parks and Right-of-Way; Transit; and Fleet & Inventory Control. It is also the location of the Police Department’s Impound Lot.
Our scope of work included: 1) Complete reconstruction of the site retention basin; 2) Pavement rehabilitation and replacements in sections both AC and PCCP; 3) Construction of shade canopies at the Tire Shop; Installation of a new lighting package; removal and replacement of on-site chain link fencing; and complete microsealing of all parking areas.
Completed in multiple phases, DBA crews worked around scheduled heavy traffic days within the facility associated with garbage truck usage and coordinated construction with the facility operators to limit disruption to normal operations.
Working along Johnson Road (west of Sun Valley Parkway north of Interstate 10), DBA crews are excavating along the roadway, installing elliptical pipe sections, and building connections to pipe with cast-in-place concrete inlet/outlet structures at two intersections to convey storm water. The two intersections (Portland and Bellview Streets) have become inundated during heavy storms, making ingress/egress to the neighborhood hazardous and a nuisance for local residents.
Once complete, the new structures and pipe will connect to an existing drainage ditch running along Johnson Road on the east side. The project is being completed for Maricopa County Department of Transportation.
Selected by traditional design-bid-build methods, DBA is completing construction of a new Multi-Use Path in Wellton, Arizona connecting downtown to Butterfield Park with a new pedestrian bridge and path improvements crossing the Coyote Wash. The project required earthwork, the construction of concrete bridge foundations, asphalt path construction and concrete approaches. Ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for early January.
Currently, Job Order Contractors for the City of Surprise, DBA Construction took part in the volunteer construction of the Veteran’s Reflection Circle (a memorial to fallen hero SFC Brian Mancini). Today, Veteran’s Day 2019 was the official ribbon cutting ceremony. Local dignitaries presided over the event and U.S. Representative Debbie Lesko was in attendance along with approximately 450 Surprise residents, veterans, and City employees. DBA’s participation in the project was recognized at an earlier Dedication Ceremony at City Hall and our name is prominently displayed on a permanent placard at the memorial.
DBA Construction, Inc. participated this year in the 21st Annual Arizona Rural Transportation Summit held at the Casino del Sol in Tucson last week. The event took place October 16-18 and was very well attended by ADOT personnel and transportation leadership from the rural areas including towns and cities from Yuma to the Navajo Nation and from the Mohave County to Bisbee. DBA was on hand as a Copper sponsor (first time this year) and was allowed to showcase our capabilities and share in the fun.
DBA crews recently responded to an emergency request for the construction of four catch basins on the west side of Arizona Avenue at Chicago Street, as well as new construction of ADA ramps, sidewalk, curb & gutter, the placement of PCC paving, and tie-ins to existing piping on the east side of Arizona Avenue directly adjacent to City Hall.
Both projects were completed by DBA who responded quickly to a special request that allowed the remaining portion of the infrastructure contract for the new parking garage to continue without delay or further disruption. Extensive underground utilities had been discovered and disturbed prior to DBA’s arrival on scene. This added to the project’s complexity and required fast thinking in the field to quickly resolve the issues and reestablish utility connectivity. The special request came from another prime contractor who had released his civil subcontractor from the project due to performance issues.
