Entergy is one of the largest utility companies in the United States. Over the past five years, DBA has been contracted to complete sitework and right-of-way clearing for Entergy projects in Texas. In 2017, we were contracted to participate on a design-build team to help build one of the largest utility / power transmission projects in the State of Louisiana.
The project, named Southwest Louisiana Improvement Project is a $100 million upgrade to the power grid for the people of Jeff Davis Parish. The project started in December, 2017 and DBA’s portion is approximately 80% complete. The entire project covers new and rebuilt power lines utilizing steel structures that can withstand up to 140 mph winds along a 60 mile stretch in the Parish and a large substation.
DBA’s $1.1 million scope of work includes: clearing, grubbing, rough and fine grading the site for the substation (approximately 3.8 acres); importing fill, installing pipe, catch basins, building access roadways, paving, and placing rip-rap along slopes within the site for proper drainage. The entire site required geogrid installation to stabilize the site and protect against erosion. The substation is located just outside of Welsh, Louisiana (near Lake Charles). This is one of two projects planned for DBA in Louisiana.
